2016 Quilting UFO's

Another year, another list of projects to complete.  Last year, I definitely started more projects than I finished.  Well...at least completely finished.  I have several that are already basted to the backing, but not yet quilted and bound.  I have several others that are in pieces.

So this year, I will once again participate in the 52quilts.com UFO Challenge with Aunt Marti.  She has changed it up this year, and given us January and December off, so we will only be completing 10 UFO's this year.  Fine by me!  Last year, I only managed to complete 1 quilt and a few extra smaller projects.  I was glad to get them off my list, but they weren't the quilts.  This year, I am also going to focus on quilts that are in pieces at this point.  These are things that I have already cut, and actually started sewing, including the 2 that just need to be quilted and bound. That means they are in a box, bin, bag, or on top of my sewing work space.  I really need to get them out of the way.

1.  Bali Bedrunner by Judy Niemeyer
This is a holdover from last year, and one that I made significant progress on.  It was originally purchased at the AQS Chattanooga Show in September 2014 from Tennessee Quilts.  I intended it to be a wedding present for my cousin, Lois.  I thought it wouldn't take very long, because it was a smaller than a regular quilt.  Since it was my first time paper piecing like this, it hasn't been quite as fast.  However, I am much better now, and I look forward to finishing up this project.

2. Summer Solstice Block a Day from 52quilts.com
This was the 2014 Summer Block a Day that I worked on with Aunt Marti at 52quilts.  It is finished and basted to the backing, but I still need to quilt and bind it.  My plan is to quilt it in the Baptist Fan pattern.

3. Scrappy Mountain Majesties by Bonnie Hunter
I started this quilt at a guild meeting last year.  The top is now complete, and awaiting a backing, quilting, and binding.  I also intend to use the Baptist Fan quilting pattern on this quilt, since it will look like rainbows.  I should be really good at free-motion quilting those fans when I am finished with these two quilts for the year.  When it is finished, it will be a gift for my former boss at Publix.

4. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Charlotte Angotti
Last year, instead of having all of the Quilting Cousins Retreats in Texas, those that could came to Tennessee for the AQS Chattanooga Show.  It was perfect because we all got to take classes that interested us.  The exception was this quilt, which we all signed up for.  We got quite a bit finished in class, and I am looking forward to completing the rest of it.

5. Chained Nine-Patch by Cathy Bush
This is another quilt I started in a class I took with Mom at last year's AQS Chattanooga Show. It is a fun quilt that I have completed about half of, and I look forward to getting it finished.  In fact, I've already bought some more material to make another one in a different color way.

6.  Allietare by Bonnie Hunter
This is the 2015 Mystery Quilt over at Quiltville.com.  I managed to get all of Part 1 and half of Part 2 finished.  Just 4 and a half more parts to go!  It really is a stunning quilt, and I'm "glad" I started it.  Now I just need to finish it!

7.  Grand Illusion by Bonnie Hunter
This is the 2014 Mystery Quilt from Quiltville.  Nope!  I haven't finished it either!  It has been so long in the box, I don't even remember where I was on it.  Maybe this year I can focus and get it completed.

8.  Buttercream Block of the Month by Johnna Lee Burke
It has now been 4 years since I started this quilt as a Block of the Month.  I really do make progress, but the hand embroidery just takes time.  It is fine when I have time to just sit and work on it, but unfortunately that doesn't happen very often.  Hopefully this one will be called later in the year, so that I can continue to do the hand work during the boy's karate or waiting for them at various appointments.  I think I only have 2 and a 1/2 more blocks to embroider.

9. Civil War Celebration by Joe Wood
After buying the kit in 2012, I began working on this quilt in the Summer of 2013, while I was visiting Civil War sites with my kids.  I really like this quilt, and I look forward to having it completed.  This is another quilt for me, and one I look forward to using.

10.  Keepsake Quilt
This quilt was a Block a Week project by my Mom's quilt group in Texas.  They are all traditional blocks, and I am basically experimenting with this quilt.  What happens if you take an older quilt design and add more modern fabrics?  It is being made with a constant gray background, and scrappy black, white, and yellow pieces.

Whew!  That is quite a list!  In addition to finishing these quilts, I will also be working on a couple of quilt repairs and smaller projects this year.  My project list is now a FULL 2 pages, and I really need to get some of the smaller projects off the list as well.  My goal for my list is to finish many, and start few.  Maybe I can get the list down to a page and a half by the end of the year?
